Handmade Product Costing Calculator
Most handmade pricing advice is a multiplier on your materials, and a multiplier cannot see your time. This works the other way round. Put in what you charge and what it takes to make, and it tells you what your hour is actually being paid once Etsy and everything else has come out.

Your labour is the only cost on this list you can choose not to pay, which is exactly why it is the one that quietly disappears. Everything else gets invoiced to you.
Why materials multipliers do not work
Multiply materials by three and a mug using £4.80 of clay prices at £14.40. The same maker spending £4.80 on silver for a ring that takes four hours prices it at £14.40 too. One pays a reasonable wage and the other pays about £2 an hour.
The multiplier is blind to the only input that varies most between handmade items, which is how long they take. That is why makers who price this way end up loving their cheap fast products and quietly resenting their expensive slow ones.
Waste belongs in materials. If one piece in eight comes out of the kiln wrong, the seven that survive have to carry the cost of the eighth, and a costing that ignores that is short by an eighth.
Overheads belong in the item too. Studio rent, kiln electricity, tools, insurance and software are real, and dividing them by the number of items you make in a month is rough but far better than leaving them out, which is the usual alternative.
Your whole range, in Excel
The workbook costs twelve products at once and ranks them by what your hour earns on each, which is usually a very different order from the one you would guess and occasionally an uncomfortable one.

Trading profit is split on a time basis. Interest, rent, gains, donations and dividends each follow their own rule, and mixing them up misstates both accounting periods.
A long period of account needs two separate capital allowances computations, and since April 2026 they are not even calculated at the same writing down rate.
Company law allows accounts to run for 18 months; corporation tax never allows an accounting period longer than 12. Here is how the split is drawn.
