Etsy Bookkeeping Template
Twelve months of Etsy deposits turned into a profit and loss account and four VAT quarters, on eight yellow figures a month and nothing else to work out.
Because the deposit is not the turnover, and a maker’s year is not twelve equal months.
Who this workbook is for
Profitable sellers who still have weeks where the money looks wrong, and cannot see why.

VAT inclusive in, VAT exclusive out
Sales arrive with VAT in them and most of a maker’s costs do not. Comparing one against the other is the commonest error in a seller’s own spreadsheet and it overstates profit by the VAT on the sales. The template strips it out explicitly, so every margin below that line is calculated on the right number.

Built for a year that is not twelve equal months
The sample is the shape most Etsy shops actually have. November and December are forty-five per cent of the year, and the materials for them are bought in September and October when there is least money in the bank. Materials are typed month by month rather than as a percentage of sales, because that mismatch is the whole reason a good year can still run out of cash in the autumn.

The threshold is rolling, and that catches seasonal shops
The ninety thousand pound test runs on any twelve consecutive months, not your accounting year. A seasonal maker can cross it in January on the strength of a Christmas already banked and spent, which is a nasty surprise if you have been watching the calendar year instead.
