Where to Sell Calculator
Where to Sell Calculator
One order priced on all four channels, and the most you can spend winning a customer before the cheapest channel stops being the cheapest.
Where to Sell Calculator
The same order on Amazon, eBay, Etsy and your own site. The fee spread is far wider than most sellers realise, and the number that matters is not which is cheapest but how much you can afford to spend winning a customer before the cheapest stops being cheapest.

A marketplace fee is rent on somebody else's audience. Your own site is cheaper per order and every visitor is yours to find, which is what the acquisition figure prices.
Three things this comparison rests on
The fees are like for like because the price is. Selling the same item at different prices on different channels is a perfectly sensible strategy and it makes a fee comparison meaningless, so this holds the price still and moves only the channel.
VAT on platform fees ends up the same everywhere, by two different routes. Amazon and eBay charge VAT on their fees and a registered seller reclaims it. Etsy bills from Ireland, so the reverse charge applies and it never charges the VAT at all. Either way the fees cost face value when you are registered and a fifth more when you are not.
Your own site has a monthly cost the marketplaces do not, so its real rate depends on volume. At the order count above it works out per order and tells you the volume at which it starts paying for itself, which on a small shop is often the whole answer.
What none of this can see is traffic. A marketplace brings buyers and charges you for them; your own site charges almost nothing and brings nobody. The acquisition figure is exactly the price of that difference.

The workbook runs twelve products across all four channels at once, ranks each product by the channel that keeps most, and totals a month so you can see whether the answer is the same for everything you sell. It rarely is.

Trading profit is split on a time basis. Interest, rent, gains, donations and dividends each follow their own rule, and mixing them up misstates both accounting periods.
A long period of account needs two separate capital allowances computations, and since April 2026 they are not even calculated at the same writing down rate.
Company law allows accounts to run for 18 months; corporation tax never allows an accounting period longer than 12. Here is how the split is drawn.
