The bank shows £20,400 and the tax return wants £24,000. Both numbers are right
Agency Cut and Gross Income Calculator
Report the fee gross, deduct the commission as an expense: same profit, correct paperwork, and it matches what platforms and brands already report about you.
Agency Cut and Gross Income Calculator
The agent takes 15 per cent and the bank shows the net, but the tax return wants the gross. Both numbers, straight.
Why gross, and what to keep
The platform reports and the brand contracts show the gross fee, so the return must too: full fee as income, commission as an expense. Reporting the net understates turnover and quietly mismatches the platform report HMRC reads.
Keep the agency statements: they are the evidence for the commission expense, and the reconciliation between gross booked and net banked is the first thing a review asks for.
If the agency is VAT registered it charges VAT on the commission. Registered creators recover it; unregistered creators carry it as cost, which makes the true cut 18 per cent, not 15.

Trading profit is split on a time basis. Interest, rent, gains, donations and dividends each follow their own rule, and mixing them up misstates both accounting periods.
A long period of account needs two separate capital allowances computations, and since April 2026 they are not even calculated at the same writing down rate.
Company law allows accounts to run for 18 months; corporation tax never allows an accounting period longer than 12. Here is how the split is drawn.
