Why gross, and what to keep

The platform reports and the brand contracts show the gross fee, so the return must too: full fee as income, commission as an expense. Reporting the net understates turnover and quietly mismatches the platform report HMRC reads.

Keep the agency statements: they are the evidence for the commission expense, and the reconciliation between gross booked and net banked is the first thing a review asks for.

If the agency is VAT registered it charges VAT on the commission. Registered creators recover it; unregistered creators carry it as cost, which makes the true cut 18 per cent, not 15.
