Profit Margin Calculator

Margin is the share of each pound of sales you keep, and it comes in layers: gross margin survives the cost of the goods, net margin survives everything. The two tell you different things, so this calculator shows both.

£
Sales for the period, excluding VAT if you are VAT registered.
£
What the goods you sold cost you: stock, materials, direct labour, carriage in.
£
Rent, admin payroll, marketing, insurance, software. Leave blank for gross margin only.

Markup on cost

Net profit

Margin is profit over revenue; markup is profit over cost. They are different numbers, and pricing with the wrong one is the quietest way to undercharge: a 40% margin needs a 66.7% markup.
