Anyone running a tronc on a spreadsheet nobody could defend
Since 1 October 2024 the records are a legal requirement, workers can request them, and the deadline is the end of the month after the month the tip was paid. The month sheet allocates by hours times a role weight, a basis the statutory Code accepts when applied consistently, and the shares always sum to exactly what came in because they are computed, not typed.

Anyone whose troncmaster needs a system, not a shoebox
The check cell at the bottom of every month is the discipline: received less allocated must read zero, or the month is not done. Change any team member’s hours and the shares renormalise so the total still lands to the penny, which is what keeps the monthly reconciliation honest and the NIC exemption safe from the accusation of casual administration.

Anyone who wants the year inspectable in one place
The trail sheet holds twelve months of received, allocated, paid-by date, basis applied and troncmaster signature — one row a month, three years the safe retention. Pair it with the Tronc and Tips Calculator, which prices what all this discipline protects: £22,485 a year of National Insurance on the demo venue’s tips.
