Break-Even Offsite Ads Rate

You do not choose this rate. It is 15 per cent, or 12 once your shop has taken 10,000 dollars in a rolling year, and past that point you cannot opt out again for the lifetime of the shop. So the question is which of your listings can carry it, and what the others would have to sell for.

Extra sales needed to stand still

A listing that carries the ad is not the same as a listing the ad is worth having on. The last line is the one that answers that, because it counts the sales you would have made anyway.

Three things about Offsite Ads that are not obvious

The 10,000 dollar threshold is permanent. Once your shop has taken that in a rolling year, participation is compulsory for the lifetime of the shop, and it stays compulsory even if your sales fall back below it later.

The attribution window is 30 days and it is not limited to the item advertised. If a buyer clicks an ad for one of your listings and then buys anything from your shop within 30 days, that order is attributed and the fee applies, whether they came back through the ad or through Etsy search.

There is a cap of 100 dollars per order, which is the only protection built into the scheme. On a large order that turns 15 per cent into something much smaller, so expensive listings carry the ad far more comfortably than cheap ones.

Together those three mean the fee lands hardest on shops selling a lot of low-value items, which is a large part of Etsy.
